Un-Finished Litany With The Holy Spirit

by George E. Schulhoff

I am going to reveal to you a secret of sanctity and happiness. Every day for five minutes, keep your imagination quiet, shut your eyes to all the things of sense, and close your ears to all the sounds of earth, so as to be able to withdraw into the sanctuary of your baptized soul, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Speak there to that Holy Spirit. This submission to the Holy Spirit is the Secret of Sanctity.

-Cardinal Mercier

This litany is unfinished. The Holy Spirit will provide me with additional insight and knowledge along with thoughts that do not appear here in print. Space is provided after the Each of us will receive a different message.

We were each created to serve, honor and love God in a different way and for a different reason, in order to complete His creation and be happy with Him in this life and in the life to come.

This litany is a litany "with" the Holy Spirit. A single reminds me to relax, to allow the Holy Spirit to enter my heart. I pause and ponder any thoughts that the Holy Spirit may motivate me with at this particular moment.

Time means nothing to God. If I am too anxious to declare my next statement of praise, I will most likely miss the counsel He loves to give me.

The Holy Spirit may also speak to me through people I know and meet. As I continue to be in communion with Him, I will sense His presence in my everyday circumstances, in His wonderful creation. He will teach me things and my life will no longer be ordinary.

The Apostle John, expressed this so well in his gospel.

(JOHN 16: 13-15.)

"O Holy Spirit, You are God." is my first statement of praise. After enjoying the presence of the Holy Spirit in my heart for a period of time, I must allow the Holy Spirit an abundance of time to inject His counsel completing this individual statement of praise. I can then declare my next statement.

A period of time for a beginner might be two or three seconds. An experienced person would have no trouble deliberating this statement of praise and others contained in this litany for many delightful, peaceful, profitable happy hours and days of exaltation of great joy and ecstasy. This litany with the Holy Spirit has been arranged so I can devote as long a time it is possible for me to spend on each statement of praise.

The three reminds me to continue the litany tomorrow.

During the many years the author devoted to dwelling on the Holy Spirit in his heart, he often turned to the Holy Spirit for Counsel, Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding, Fortitude, Piety and Fear of Offending His Lord and God. The author believes the Holy Spirit gave him the printed thoughts contained in this litany.

O Holy Spirit, You are God.

You are God, the Holy Spirit.

You, Holy Spirit are the Third Person in the Blessed Trinity, God my Sanctifier.

You, Holy Spirit, are One with the Father.

You are One with the Son.

You are the Spirit of the Father.

You are the Spirit of the Son.

You are Truth.

You are God the Holy Spirit sent by the Father and the Son.

You are Almighty.

"I will ask the Father and He will give you another Paraclete-to be with you always: the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot accept, since it neither sees Him nor recognizes Him; but you can recognize Him because Heremains with you and will be within you."

(JOHN 14:16-17)

You, were in the beginning with God.

All things were made through you, O Holy Spirit.

Without you, nothing was made.

In you, O Holy Spirit was life.

Your Holy Spirit is the light of men.

You, Holy Spirit shine in the darkness.

You, enlighten every man that comes into the world.

You, Holy Spirit, were made flesh.

All must believe, through your Light.

You, Holy Spirit were in the world, the world was made by you, but the world knew you not.

"In the beginning was the Word; the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ..."

(JOHN 1:1-12)

You are the one sent to dwell in my heart.

You have made my heart, the Tabernacle of Your Presence.

The intimacy, I share with you, warms my entire being.

Your Temple is in my heart, making it more private for you to talk to me.

Your presence in my heart, romances me.

Your Temple in my heart makes You close and familiar.

You are in my heart, that I might listen to you anytime.

You are in my heart, that I might listen to you, always.

You are in my heart that I might listen to you, anywhere.

Your Presence lifts up my heart-keeps it pure-makes it alive.

"My sheep hear My voice. I know them, and they follow Me." (I know mine and mine know me.)

(JOHN 10:27)

You are the Spirit that gives my body life.

You, Holy Spirit, are the life in me that shall live forever.

You, give me life even in death.

With Your Life, I shall live forever in eternity.

You are the Breath of Life in me.

You are in the deepest part of my soul.

You, Holy Spirit came unto your own, your own received you not.

But to as many who receive you, Holy Spirit, You give power to become sons of God.

Those who believe in you, are born again.

Those who believe in you, Holy Spirit, are born of God.

(You are sons of God.) "The proof that you are sons is the fact that God has sent forth into our hearts the spirit of His Son which cries out 'Abba!' ('Father')."

O Holy Spirit, there is no greater love than yours.

You are the Author of Love.

You are Love.

You are Love beyond my comprehension.

You are the Love I feel in my heart.

You are a Love that never ceases.

You are Patient with me because I do not fully understand your Love.

You enkindle in my heart the Fire of Your Love.

You are more than deserving and worthy of all my love.

You are inspiring and excite my heart with your Love.

(The reason God loves us is, we are His creation.)"...the apple of His eye."

You are the Love the Father and Son have for me.

You are the Love sent to me by my Creator and Redeemer.

You are the Love that is the Light of the World.

You are Love that is supernatural.

Your Love is tender.

Your Love has overwhelming concern for me.

Your Love is involved in my worldly activities.

Holy Spirit, You are in love with me because the Father has created me.

You are in love with me because I was created in the image of the Father.

It is your Love in my heart that teaches me.

"...the love of God has poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us."

(ROMANS 5:5)

Holy Spirit, You aid me with seven powerful spiritual gifts.

You want me to ask for these gifts at the time of necessity to show my faith and trust in you.

You give me Knowledge that I may "see" as You see.

You endow me with Understanding.

You grant me Counsel.

You provide me with Fortitude and strength.

You instill Piety in me for you, that reminds me of two lovers, content to sit by the hour, holding hands and gazing spellbound into each others' eyes.

You cause me to Fear losing You.

You bless me with Wisdom to use these gifts in their proper balance.

You reward me with great peace when I use these gifts.

"The spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him: a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, a spirit of counsel and strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the Lord."

(ISAIAH 11:2)

Holy Spirit You are the AM who AM.

You are my Advocate.

You are God's voice in me.

You are my Prompter.

You are my Intercessor to the Father.

You are my Counselor.

You are my Mediator to the Father.

You are the Motivator of my good deeds.

You are my Support.

O Holy Spirit, You are more powerful than the most violent forces.

"God replied 'I Am who Am.' Then he added, 'This is what you shall tell the Israelites. I AM sent me to you.'"

(EXODUS 3:14)

Holy Spirit, You are my Companion.

No Companion could be more intimate than you.

You help me to share my confidences with you, to meditate and think about you.

You accompany me regardless of where I am.

You are present when no one else is.

You are my Therapist.

You aid, assist and help me.

You escort, guide and lead me.

You direct me along the right path.

You caution me against danger.

You are my Defender.

Holy Spirit, You come to take possession of me.

"...I call you friends, since I have made known to you all that I heard from my Father."

(JOHN 15:15)

"It was not you who chose Me, it was I who chose you to go forth and bear fruit. ..."

(JOHN 15:16)

You are my only Hope.

You are the Healer of my soul.

You absolve and cleanse me of all sin.

You give me security and protection.

You give me courage.

You give me assurance.

You give me certainly and confidence.

You give me conviction.

You give me commitment.

You purify me.

"May He enlighten your innermost vision that you may know the great hope to which He has called you, ..."

You are Peace, O Holy Spirit.

You are the Author of Peace.

You are Serenity.

You give me comfort when I am anxious.

You are Quiet.

You are Stillness and Silence.

You are Repose.

You are Paradise.

You are Tranquility.

You give me Peace.

"...your thoughts should be wholly directed to all that is true, all that deserves respect, all that is honest, pure, admirable, decent, virtuous, or worthy of praise. ...Then will the God of peace (the Holy Spirit) be with you."

You are more than deserving and worthy of all my faith and trust.

Holy Spirit, You are deserving of all my contrition.

You are worthy of all my time and attention.

You are more than deserving of my worship.

You merit the greatest respect.

You are worthy of all praise.

You deserve all honor.

You are more than deserving and worthy of infinite gratitude.

You are more than worthy of all my hope.

You are everything to me in my life, how can I thank you?

(...I forget not the glorious things you do for me. You forgive all my sins. You heal me. You ransomed me from Hell. You always surround me with loving kindness and tender mercies. You fill my life with good things. You renew my youth like the eagle. You give justice to all who are treated unfairly. ... You are merciful and tender to those of us who don't deserve it; You are slow to get angry. You are full of kindness and love. You never bear a grudge and remain angry. You do not punish us as we deserve. Your mercy towards those who love and honor You, is as great as the heavens are above the earth. You have removed my sin as far as the east is from the west. You are like a Father to us, You are tender and sympathetic. ...)

PSALM 103)

In the Name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and may your Holy Spirit
this day enter my heart,
and remain with me forever.

I assure you, if you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you would be able to say to this mountain, "Move from here to there", and it would move.

(MATTHEW 17:20)

Luke 11:9      Ask and you shall receive;
Seek and you shall find;
Knock and it shall be opened to you.

Luke 11:10     For whoever asks, receives;
whoever seeks, finds;

whoever knocks, is admitted

Luke 11:11 What father among you will give his son a snake if he asks for a fish,

Luke 11:12 or hand him a scorpion if he asks for an egg?

Luke 11:13 If you with all your sins, know how to give your children good things, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.
